May 21, 1991: The Sharks pay the $50 million entrance fee to the NHL

October 4, 1991: The Sharks play in their first game,  a 4-3 loss to Vancouver

October 8, 1991: The Sharks record their first victory, 4-3 against Calgary

January 18, 1991: Doug Wilson becomes the first Sharks player to play in an all-star game

September 30, 1993: The Sharks played their first game in the newly opened San Jose Arena, 4-2 pre season win the Islanders

April 30, 1994: The Sharks beat the Red Wings 3-2 to upset Detroit, the first time the Sharks made the playoffs

March 10, 1995: The game against Detroit in San Jose is postponed because of flooding in San Jose.  This was the first time an NHL game was delayed because of rain

March 17, 1995: The Sharks launched their website (www.sj-sharks.com), the Sharks are the first NHL team to have its own permanent web site

May 19, 1995: The Sharks defeat the Calgary Flames in double overtime in Game 7, again upsetting a heavily favored team

June 24, 1995: Jeff Friesen is named to the NHL All-Rookie Team (he is the first Shark to receive a post season award)

February 18, 1997: The 46th Annual NHL All-Star Game is played at San Jose Arena (San Jose was supposed to host the All-Star Game for the 1995 season but the lockout made it impossible to have an all-star game

May 9, 1997: Sharks fire head coach Al Sims

June 9, 1997: Sharks sign Darryl Sutter as head coach (he is the team's 5th head coach in 6 years)

June, 21 1997: Tony Granato is awarded the Bill Masterton Trophy (for perseverance and dedication to hockey) for his comeback from life threatening brain surgery
